Records, 1961-1981, of the Commission on Aging and the State Advisory Council on Aging. These organizations reported to the governor and legislature and set the scope of the state's programs for aging and recommended programs and actions for state agencies. A state Commission on Aging was originally created in 1961 as a result of studies and interest in the problems of the aged population. Its advisory committee, the interdepartmental committee on aging, was set up at the same time. In 1967, the Commission became the Division on Aging in the Department of Health and Social Services and the Council on Aging was created.
